High-end air coolers can match or beat mid-range AIOs in raw cooling performance and have no pump to eventually fail. AIOs generally look cleaner and clear tall RAM/motherboard heatsinks more easily, but add a pump and tubing as extra components that can wear out over years.
AIOs need a case with a compatible radiator mount (120mm/240mm/280mm/360mm); air coolers need clearance for their height and width against your case's side panel and RAM slots. Measure both before buying either type.
Confirm the cooler explicitly lists support for your CPU's specific socket (for example AM5 vs. AM4, or specific LGA revisions) — many cooler generations require different mounting hardware between socket types.
A cooler that's silent at idle can still get loud under sustained gaming load. Check reviews specifically for load noise, not just an idle spec-sheet number.
