IPS vs VA vs TN Panels
IPS gives the best colour and viewing angles, VA the deepest contrast, TN the lowest price and fastest raw response. Each trades something real.
The panel type is the underlying LCD technology, and it sets the character of the screen before any other spec. IPS holds colour accuracy across wide viewing angles, which is why it dominates both creative work and modern gaming monitors.
VA panels block light more effectively when displaying black, producing noticeably deeper contrast — the reason they are common in curved and cinematic-leaning displays. The tradeoff is slower pixel transitions in dark scenes, which can show as smearing behind fast-moving objects.
TN is the oldest of the three. It is cheap and has historically had the fastest raw pixel response, but colours shift visibly the moment you move off-centre. Modern fast IPS panels have closed most of the speed gap that once justified it.
