The 10-Step Account Security Checklist (Do This After Every Purchase)

The riskiest minutes of any account purchase come after delivery — the window between receiving credentials and fully securing them. This checklist closes that window. Run it top to bottom on every account you ever buy, and account recovery attempts simply stop being a threat.
The 10-step checklist
- Log in immediately after delivery — don't let credentials sit in your inbox.
- Change the account password to something unique you've never used elsewhere.
- Change the linked email to an address you own and control.
- Change that email account's password too, if the inbox was included in the sale.
- Enable two-factor authentication on the game account.
- Enable two-factor authentication on the email as well — it's the master key.
- Remove unknown recovery details: phone numbers, backup emails, security questions.
- Unlink third-party logins you don't recognise (social sign-ins, connected apps).
- Sign out all other sessions/devices if the platform offers it.
- Only NOW confirm delivery on the marketplace — this releases payment to the seller.
Why the email matters more than the password
Every account recovery flow runs through email. Whoever controls the inbox can reset the password at will — which is why full email access is non-negotiable when buying, and why steps 3, 4 and 6 matter more than anything else on this list. An account with your password but the seller's email is not your account yet.
Platform-specific notes
- Steam accounts (CS2, Rust): enabling the Mobile Authenticator triggers a 15-day trade hold — normal behaviour, plan inventory moves around it.
- Riot accounts (Valorant, LoL): check the account region right after login; it should match the listing.
- Minecraft: confirm the account is fully migrated to your email and claim your username if a name change is available.

How fast do I need to secure a bought account?
Immediately — within minutes of delivery. The gap between receiving credentials and changing them is the only window where a bad actor could act. Run the checklist before you play a single match.
What if the listing didn't include the original email?
Non-full-access accounts can't be fully secured, because the previous owner keeps the recovery path. Treat them as disposable, or better: only buy full-access listings in the first place.
Should I confirm delivery before or after securing the account?
After — always. Confirming releases payment to the seller and closes the escrow window. Secure everything first, verify the account matches the listing, then confirm.
