Diablo 4's trading rules have one defining feature: they change. What's tradeable this season may be account-bound next season, and vice versa. So instead of memorising a list that will go stale, this guide teaches you the check that always works — plus how the rules affect what you buy.
The check that always works
Open your inventory and hover over any item. Look at the bottom of the tooltip: items that cannot be traded are explicitly marked as account-bound. If an item shows no bound tag, it can be traded via the drop-trade or trade window. This tooltip is the ground truth — more reliable than any list you'll read online, including this one.
What has generally been tradeable
- Gold — the backbone of Diablo 4 trading, always deliverable by in-game trade.
- Consumables and crafting/boss summoning materials — typically tradeable and heavily traded.
- Many rare and legendary items in unmodified, dropped state.
The highest tiers — mythic uniques and top endgame items — are exactly where Blizzard adjusts rules most often between seasons. Sometimes they trade; sometimes they're bound on drop. This is why checking current-season rules matters most at the top end, which is also where the money is.
What this means when you buy
- Buy from listings that are live this season — an active listing for an item is itself evidence the item currently trades.
- Confirm realm and platform: Seasonal vs Eternal, Softcore vs Hardcore, and your platform must all match.
- Take delivery via face-to-face trade in town — the standard, login-free method.
- Check the item in the trade window against the listing before accepting.
